About my work
I am an artist based in Monmouth. My aim is to express the spiritual in Nature through paint, print and digital photography. By spiritual I mean the special response created inside us by the quality of the spaces and forms that are unique to a vista.
Sometimes I work directly from the landscape, in the traditional way, especially at those special times of day- dawn and dusk.
At other times I study the movement of light through Nature- the water over rocks, the clouds in the sky, the wind in the trees etc. These works then take on a more abstract space- the Inscape.
Accident plays an important role in my paintings and prints, encouraged by using unusual mediums together. It lies alongside the more deliberate marks I have made with a brush or a carving tool.
